In the United States, smoke systems are frequently installed through a field approval process using FAA Form 337 for certified aircraft. Experimental planes are a lot easier as they don’t require the Form 337.
An Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic who holds an Inspection Authorization (IA) can complete and submit the FAA Form 337 required to document and approve the installation for a particular aircraft.
We are one of the only companies using aluminum for the tanks.
The tank is manufactured from 5052 aluminum, a high-quality aluminum alloy commonly used in aviation applications. This material offers excellent corrosion resistance, amazing strength, and is well suited for storing smoke oil. The use of aluminum also keeps the system lightweight while maintaining durability and reliability.
The Stratus Smoke System and all components weighs 13 lbs without any smoke oil. When the tank is filled the total weight of the full system is about 33 lbs.
